Once the majority of Israel settled in their land, Israel finally had (a very rich and fertile) land of their own as a nation; but if they didn't want to be destroyed and run out like the former Canaanite nations, they would have to keep the covenant of their God and obey him, though Israel had promised him they would always obey him, would they continue to obey? This section tells the story straight from the Bible of ancient Israel's history as an established nation under God and what future Israelite generations did with the sacred covenant.
